I want to post some encouragement here having lived 35 years w Herpes. IT AIN'T SO BAD!!! The human body and psyche can adjust. Mine did.
I first got infected in 1977 (back in the day of free love and no Aids). The doc tried regular chicken pox injections as an experiment. It didn't work.

Over the years I would advise my partners and never spread it. I've been married 30 years and we had 2 healthy beautiful daughters. My wife never got it. Our code was me telling her whether "the coast is clear" before becoming sexual.

Recently I was infected w oral herpes after kissing someone She's blaming me. but that's another story.

I just wanted to pass on that you can live a rich full life and adjust emotionally and physically to the disease. Now I go years without an outbreak. If I have one outbreak every 3 years thats a lot.

PS p[l disregard my email title Google picked it for me :)

I have been with my boyfriend for 8 months now and we've been having unprotected sex for the last 5 months. Last week, I had the most intense itch and burning in my genital area. I was so worried that I started to notice some red bumps. Every time I peed I had a stinging sensation..My mom decided that we needed to go to the doctor ASAP. They tested my urine sample and it turned out that I had a UTI. I told the doctor about my bumps and that it was painful to even sit. He had this worried look on his face which scared me. He did a pelvic exam and told me that I had genital herpes...my heart felt that it had dropped and fell out of my butt. It didn't make any sense to me at all though. My boyfriend never had a visible outbreak on his genitalia, so why would this happen to me? I have never been so raged with anger. I didn't want to believe him, I knew it couldn't be true. But he sent me to LabCorp to get a blood test and have an STD scan. He told me he would call with the results in 48 hours. The wait was possibly the most terrifying 2 days of my life. Well, 2 1/2 days later I was getting dressed from my yoga class; I heard my phone vibrating and I knew it was my mom with the lab results, it turned out that I DID NOT have genital herpes!! I have never been so relieved in my life. I was negative on all of the STD's possible. So point of my story is, always use protection!

i have been with my bf of 8 months now and have been having unprotected sex with him but also had unprotected sex previously before him. i have notice a certain rash on him that's white that could be a herpes outbreak. but now i have notice with my health i have a outbreak that deals with constantly itching, and also itching in my private area. itching from head to toe. i never in my life had an std. never until now. but now i've notice itching on hands, feet, overall everywhere. and this outbreak is killing me. but most likely now i think i had contracted herpes form my partner. (still together) i have notice i'm shaking,. forgetting things and etc. but i'm going to get tested very soon. i hope i can get through this situation that now has changed my life forever:(

I'm a bit confused on the advice I've found various places. An alkaline diet seems to contradict a lysine-oriented, anti-argenine diet. Dairy and meat are supposed to be lysine friendly, but more acidic. And nuts and legumes are supposed to be alkaline but high in argenine. I mean, I guess lysine supplements can counter argenine-high food, but which should I focus on avoiding- the alkaline or argenine? I mostly really miss nuts and peanut butter, but I've been afraid to eat them.

I'm one of the lucky ones who get both HSV I and II infections. Woohoo. Interesting, I didn't know about Dynamiclear or calundula for herpes. I thought I'd throw my favorite remedy into the hat, Cold Sores Begone. It's an herbal remedy also and when I can apply it early at the warning sensations, it does prevent the outbreak. I use it for both infections, haven't had any problems with it. I buy it online but occasionally see it in health food stores also.

I work for the UKs leading provider of private STI testing services, including Herpes. Herpes is a tricky virus as it can take years to show up after you have been infected. Often people confuse types I and II or do not know which they have. There are 3 main ways of testing for Herpes: by urine (if you have a current infection in the mouth or genitals), a PCR swab of the herpes blister or a blood test. A blood test is the only way of telling whether you have Herpes when you have no symptoms, as 1 in 4 people have no symptoms (can still transmit the virus to someone who might have major symptoms) and 2 in 4 have only mild symptoms, the only way to know whether you have Herpes is to get tested. So if someone tells you that they have Herpes - before you react, consdier whether you know whether you do! It's Better2Know!

Hi everyone,
I just found this blog about 30 minutes ago while doing herpes research - I am so thankful. What an incredibly helpful resource, and supportive to boot. I was diagnosed with HVS2 a little over a year ago. It's been so challenging but now, today when I am in day 4 of an outbreak, it really is getting easier to deal with. And my boyfriend has been a large part of why. When I got my first outbreak we had only been together about 5 months. The timing was such too that it was very likely that he had given it to me, which also meant he was asymptomatic if he indeed had it. Talk about a potential strain on the relationship. He came with me to my doctor's appointment and sat in the waiting room when I got the news. I explained everything during the ride home. The first words out of his mouth:

"This changes nothing."

I was just so relieved that I didn't have to deal with judgement from this man I'd fallen for on top of navigating through my own feelings about having contracted this. Thinking about it now gets me choked up still. And so today we've been together for a year and a half, I'm managing an outbreak now (which I believe was a direct result of a particularly stressful work week while my boss was on vacation) through healthy eating, exercise and Acyclovir (hence the research - want to look into other alternatives to these meds), and my boyfriend knows so we're abstaining from sex, which is easy since he just left town to travel for work. Besides, during times like these we're reminded that sex isn't all we have going on.

This could have turned out many different ways for me, I'm fortunate to be with someone who loves me enough to do some research, understand what's going on, and be supportive of me. I know not every prospective partner is so open but hey, just confirmation that THAT isn't the right person for you anyway. One thing I needed to remind myself about was that herpes affects 25% of the population because of how easy it is to get it. It doesn't mean you're dirty, or a slut, or irresponsible. Anyone who comes to that kind of judgement about you can keep it moving.

Wonderful job Nanci!!
